LABOR INVESTING IN LGBTIQA+ COMMUNITY CONNECTION
A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will invest a further $78,000 to support LGBTIQA+ media organisations across the country.
Labor will deliver $26,000 to support the Star Observer, QNews and OutInPerth respectively. These independent publishers are the leading LGBTIQA+ media organisations across Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, with a national reach. They each play an important role in promoting community connection, participation, belonging and empowerment.
This commitment builds on our investment of $250,000 for Joy Media, the nation’s first and only LGBTIQA+ community radio station based in Melbourne.
The Albanese Labor Government is working alongside LGBTIQA+ Australians and has delivered support, including:
- Australia’s first ever National Action Plan for the Health and Wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ People
- A $10 million election commitment to improve primary healthcare for LGBTIQA+ Australians
- Funding to scale up dedicated LGBTIQA+ services
- Support for Australia hosting World Pride and the Human Rights Conference in 2023
- The addition of a new topic of ‘sexual orientation and gender’ to the 2026 census to better inform policy decisions impacting LGBTIQA+ Australians
- Funding for Australia’s LGBTIQA+ museum, Qtopia, and
- Legislating the strongest ever protections for LGBTIQA+ people through the Hate Crimes Bill.
Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.
