AFTER SIX YEARS OF INACTION, LIBERALS ANNOUNCE ANOTHER REVIEW

Instead of taking real action to fix Australia’s skills crisis, the Liberals have announced yet another review.
After six years of the Liberals:

  • $3 billion has been cut from TAFE and training;
  • 150,000 trainees and apprentices have been lost; and
  • there’s a skills crisis, including a shortage of workers in critical services such as plumbing, hairdressing, and motor mechanics.

The Government should have done a review and taken action a long time ago.
If Scott Morrison was serious about fixing Australia’s skills crisis he would stop the cuts to TAFE, support more apprentices, and train Australians to fill jobs where there are shortages.
After more than six years of the Liberals’ inaction, Australia is faced with rising levels of insecure work, and record low wages growth.
The Liberals have spent the last month attacking job seekers looking for work, rather than helping them.

The Liberals have railed against labour market testing, which is needed to make sure that where Australians are able to fill job vacancies, they get the chance to do so.

Everyone but the Liberals knows that the current labour market system must work better to connect unemployed Australians with decent, stable jobs.
