REMADE IN AUSTRALIA JOINS ICONIC AUSTRALIAN MADE BRANDS

A new brand, ‘ReMade in Australia’ has been launched today to promote Australian recycled content products and projects.

This brand will help consumers, businesses and governments identify genuine, certified products and projects that use recycled content.

It supports the Albanese Labor Government’s Future Made in Australia Plan and encourages Australian manufacturers to recycle more, and customers to choose more recycled products made here at home.

Products that display the ReMade in Australia logo will have a minimum of 20% recycled content. 50% of that recycled content must be Australian made, which will increase to 100% in 2030.

Building on the iconic and instantly recognisable ‘Australian Made’ brand, the ‘ReMade in Australia’ logo features the iconic kangaroo silhouette and green-and-gold colour scheme with a circular arrow to highlight sustainability and recycling.

The Albanese Labor Government has invested $8 million to support establishment and growth of the brand, as well as promotion and protection of the logo through to mid-2027.

Labor is building Australia’s future and Peter Dutton and the climate deniers in his party are focused on cuts, refusing to commit to any policies that help the environment.

The brand is expected to be available for use by businesses in late 2025 subject to its approval and registration as a certification trade mark.

The Remade logo builds on the Albanese Labor Government’s strong record on waste and recycling including:

  • Investing over $1 billion, alongside states, territories and industry, to recycle an extra 1.3 million tonnes – including facilities to recycle soft and difficult to recycle plastics. These projects are creating around 3,400 jobs.

  • Embedding circular economy principles and actions in 30 Government policies and programs representing nearly $150 billion in expenditure, including the $15 billion National Reconstruction Fund.

  • Introduced a new Sustainable Procurement policy to make sure the Government buys more recycled things – one of the best in the OECD.

The ReMade in Australia scheme will be administered by not-for-profit Australian Made Campaign Limited, manager of the Australian Made, Australian Grown suite of brands.

The decision to create the new ReMade brand was made prior to the Caretaker period.

Quotes attributable to the Minister for the Environment and Water Tanya Plibersek:

“Australians have been choosing Australian-made products featuring the green and gold kangaroo since it was first launched by Prime Minister Bob Hawke in 1986. We’re building on that history, to make sure we’re not just making things here, but recycling more too.

“We know Australians want to do their bit for the environment and recycle more. This brand will help people clearly identify and support local manufacturers who are using recycled materials. It’s good for our environment, and it’s a great way to support local jobs.

“We know that for every one job in landfill there are three jobs in recycling. Every bit of rubbish that ends up in landfill is a missed opportunity.

“We want Australia to be a global leader in recycling. That’s why we’ve boosted recycling capacity by more than 1.3 million tonnes and its why we are working with states and territories to reform packaging laws in Australia. We’re focused on building a circular economy – and that includes supporting our recyclers to find new markets, so the items we place in our recycling bins can be turned into new products.

“The choice at the election is clear. Labor is focused on creating jobs, making more things here, and better protecting our environment. Or Peter Dutton whose only promise is cuts, and the climate deniers and wreckers of the Liberal and National parties who haven’t made a single commitment that would help improve nature.”

Quotes attributable to the Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic:

“The Made in Australia kangaroo is already an Aussie icon – and ReMade in Australia is the natural evolution of this much-loved classic brand.

“We know consumers want a way to easily identify Aussie products made from recycled materials, and ReMade in Australia does just that.

“We’re making it easier for all Aussies – including our Aussie manufacturers – to do what’s right for our planet.

“Australians love backing Aussie-made products and recycled products too – this new logo will shine a terrific spotlight on this powerful combo.”

Quotes attributable to Ben Lazzaro – Chief Executive Officer of Australian Made Campaign Limited and ReMade in Australia Limited:

“Australian Made Campaign Limited is excited to be partnering with the Australian Government to add another brand to the iconic suite of Australian Made, Australian Grown brands.

“Sustainability is increasingly important to Australian consumers and the ReMade in Australia Brand will provide a trusted mark to identify products made with recycled materials, right here in Australia.

“In securing this grant, we can now begin the important work of setting up for the brand’s long-term success.”
